It revealed Jodie and Nathan's baby had contracted Strep B - a type of bacteria called streptococcal bacteria which can be passed onto newborn babies during vaginal birth. Jodie, a 33-year-old accountant from Lincolnshire, had no idea Strep B was something to worry about during pregnancy. If I'd have known about Strep B Oscar wouldn't have been fighting for his life at just a few hours old. "The rates of group B Strep infection have steadily increased in the UK over recent years and this cannot be allowed to continue. "The charity is campaigning for the UK to adopt a national policy of routine antenatal testing for group B Strep - this will prevent more of these awful infections.
