Committee chairman William Leong (pic) said this was because the issue concerns one of Pakatan Harapan's promises in its election manifesto. Leong said they would call for a meeting with Dr Mahathir to determine the committee's functions, especially after a few major appointments – including the appointment of Latheefa as MACC chief, were made without their input. Leong said he would send a letter to meet with Dr Mahathir "first thing tomorrow morning". On June 5, Dr Mahathir clarified that the decision to appoint Latheefa was one he had made alone without discussing it with the Cabinet.
