CHICAGO, IL.—Travelers returning to the U.S. from abroad on Saturday night faced hourslong waits in crowded conditions in some airports as officials took extra measures aimed at preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus. Many cut their trips short when the U.S. earlier this week placed new travel restrictions from continental Europe—which came into force at midnight on Friday—fearing their return flights could be canceled.
