In the Palmerston North District Court on Tuesday Chariety Pokaia was sentenced for causing a crash which severely injured her two passengers in Woodville last year. On her way home from a drinking session a Palmerston North woman drove through a give way sign and into the path of a truck and trailer unit. The pair suffered extensive injuries in the crash, the Palmerston North District Court heard on Tuesday. “Your two passengers both sustained broken pelvises,” Judge Jonathan Krebs told Pokaia. She was disqualified from driving for a year and sentenced to one month community detention and 12 months’ intensive supervision.
