Peaty was the star turn as he became the first British man to win an Olympic gold medal in the pool for 28 years. It may have taken Adam Peaty and Jazz Carlin only that long to kick-start Great Britain’s Olympic Games, but last night will be talked about in revered tones for decades. Only 21 himself, Peaty backed up his world record in the heats of the 100 metres breaststroke by shattering it once more when it really mattered. His mark of 57.13sec was 1.5sec clear of the also-swams, and you might think it… Forget 15 minutes of fame.
