(AP Photo/Aaron Favila) The Associated PressMANILA, Philippines -- Philippine officials on Saturday announced a nighttime curfew in the capital and said people in the densely populated region should leave their homes during the daytime only for work or urgent errands under restrictions imposed to fight the coronavirus. The measures include suspending domestic travel by land, air and sea to and from the capital region, home to more than 12 million people. Philippine health officials reported 34 new coronavirus infections on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 98. But a prominent human rights lawyer, Jose Manuel Diokno, said law enforcers could not arrest anyone for resisting emergency health restrictions. ———The Associated Press receives support for health and science coverage from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Department of Science Education.
