Egyptian Ambassador in Beirut Yasser Elwi said on Friday the Egyptian State is keen to support and assist Lebanon in the aftermath of the massive deadly explosion that rocked Beirut on August 4. Egypt-led urgent sealift to Lebanon is set to carry large quantities of basic and necessary building and reconstruction materials to contribute to renovating Beirut’s port after the devastating blast, Elwi told reporters as he received the first ship of Egypt’s relief aid to Lebanon. Today’s batch will be followed by other ships that are scheduled to carry large quantities of aluminium, cement, adhesives, iron and marble, he noted. More than 180 people in Lebanon were killed in a blast in the capital Beirut, which was caused by a fire that ignited hundreds of tons of ammonium nitrate. Also, thousands of people were wounded and losses were estimated at more than $10 billion.
