NEW DELHI: The commander of an airline has been suspended for smoking in the cockpit while flying an aircraft, an action unprecedented in India. The episode occurred on an AirAsia India flight from Hyderabad to Delhi last Monday (August 28). "The DGCA rules and action on tipsy flying have had a sobering impact. It is time that smoking in cockpit gets the required deterrent," said a nonsmoker pilot. An AirAsia India spokesperson said the airline had "apprised the DGCA of the breach... immediately after the incident and the Captain has been suspended with immediate effect".
