REFERRING to the reports on the launch of the National Unity 2021-2030 Blueprint (The Star, Feb 16), the government’s initiative to strengthen national unity is most timely indeed. As the experts quoted in “Govt urged to drive policy to achieve objectives” say, a national unity policy complete with a blueprint and an action plan is long overdue for Malaysia and must not be wasted. Without doubt, political issues over the past months have negatively impacted our sense of unity, social and religious harmony. We must all strive to uphold key values including mutual respect, reciprocity, moderation and social and religious tolerance. However, well-intentioned blueprints or plans are only one part of the equation.
