Police Arrest 15 Individuals on Suspicion of Burning Religious InstitutionsBy Staff ReporterDecember 22, 2019 (Ezega.com) -- Police have arrested fifteen individuals allegedly involved in the burning of religious institutions in Motta town of east Gojam zone of Amhara state of northern Ethiopia. The demonstrators also condemned the regional government which they claimed had got tips about the attack but failed to protect the religious institutions from burning. Several attacks against clergymen and the burning of orthodox churches were committed since the middle of this year by unidentified people. The Welaita zone is still under military rule, otherwise known as command post, which on Friday warned that any protest in the city will be met harshly. Many blame the 'ethnic-based politics' that the ruling party, the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), pursued for so long.
