More than 100 people related to an illegal immigration case have been arrested in a recent cross-border joint operation of the Hong Kong Police Force, Immigration Department, and Guangdong Coast Guard Bureau. Including a leader of the group, 14 cadre members, 26 assistants, and 63 illegal immigrants and workers were arrested, police announced yesterday. The suspects, including 60 men and 44 women, were arrested under multiple charges including illegal immigration, arranging passage to Hong Kong of unauthorized entrants and etc. Police said apart from South Asians, many people from mainland China are smuggling to Hong Kong. Police added more illegal immigrants have chosen to come to Hong Kong by water due to the Covid-19 pandemic and travel restriction orders.
