Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman on suspicion of criminal damage after a protester was filmed trying to set light to the Union flag at The Cenotaph during a Black Lives Matter demonstration. The protest came as part of a broader movement inspired by the Black Lives Matter demonstrations that started in the United States following the death of George Floyd in police custody on May 25. A demonstrator climbs onto The Cenotaph in Whitehall during the Black Lives Matter protest on June 7. Huw Thomas, leader of Cardiff Council, backed the removal of a statue of Sir Thomas Picton, a slave holder and military leader. He described the monument to the former governor of Trinidad as an 'affront' to black people.
