Police banned from shooting range over restrictive gun lawsPIERS FULLER/FAIRFAX NZ Wairarapa Pistol and Shooting Sports Club president Gary Rawlinson at the Gladstone Rifle Range. A Wairarapa gun club has had enough of police pushing for more restrictive gun laws and has fired back. The Wairarapa Pistol and Shooting Sports Club has banned police from using its range as a training facility - effective immediately. Club president Gary Rawlinson said members had become increasingly frustrated with the police and the Police Association's attitude towards responsible firearms owners and legitimate shooting sports. Michael Dowling, vice-chairman of the Council of Licenced Firearms Owners, said it supported the Wairarapa club's right to exclude organisations it believed were not working towards the club's goals.
