In a press release dated April 6, 2026, the Upper West Regional Police Command said it had intensified intelligence-led operations, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects and the seizure of large quantities of suspected narcotic substances across the region. The police indicated that the seizures included 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels, and eight other assorted consignments believed to be Indian hemp. Police said a patrol team intercepted a taxi, a Toyota Corolla, at Eremon in the Lawra District, leading to the discovery of 140 compressed slabs of the substance. It further indicated that police personnel on duty retrieved 51 compressed slabs from a Royal VVIP bus travelling from Wa towards Jirapa. “Further, on April 1, 2026, Police personnel on duty at the Wa-Loho barrier retrieved fifty-one (51) compressed slabs from Royal VVIP bus travelling from Wa towards Jirapa.
