Police investigate alleged theft of $49,000 worth of cigarettes near Halifax

Jennifer Clarke says officers responded to a commercial alarm at a business in Lower Sackville at around 1:30 a.m. on Friday. HALIFAX—Police are searching for suspects after security footage showed two people who appeared to be breaking into a Halifax-area business and stealing $49,000 worth of cigarettes. She says officers saw that the front door had been forced open, and security footage showed two people pulling up to the business in a large vehicle and forcing their way inside a few minutes earlier. The two suspects, who appeared to be men and were both wearing mostly black clothing and masks, took about 350 cartons of cigarettes and put them in garbage cans lined with bags. Police allege the suspects then put the bags of stolen goods in the vehicle and discarded the cans at the site before fleeing.
