Police in Hanoi said they will not investigate further into an alleged insurance fraud in which a woman hired a man to cut off her hand and foot to make the claim. The woman, identified as Ly Thi N., 30, faked a railway accident to make an insurance claim of VND3.5 billion (US$157,000) three months ago, according to the police's initial investigation. She paid Doan Van D., 21, VND50 million to hack off part of her left hand and left foot and helped her arrange the scene of a railway accident. Doctors reattached N.'s severed hand and foot, but had to remove them later after gangrene set in. "What is most unfortunate is that now she lost a hand and a foot, already a really great loss for her," Colonel Nguyen Thanh Tung, police chief of Bac Tu Liem Dist., said.
