Sophia Popov became the first German to win a women's Major with victory in the British Open a year after being close to quitting golf. World No 304 Popov closed with a 68 to finish on seven-under par 277, two shots clear of Thailand's Jasmine Suwannapura. Popov was in tears before she hit the final putt, and was overcome with emotion as she left the final green at Royal Troon.
