Portugal’s national meteorological institute (IPMA) has raised from seven to 14 districts that will be from Friday under yellow warning, the least serious of a scale of three, due to the forecast of hot weather. The districts of Evora, Faro, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisbon, Beja and Portalegre will be under warning between 12:00 on Friday and 18:00 on Saturday due to the persistence of high maximum temperature levels. The yellow warning for Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Vila Real, Leiria, Castelo Branco and Coimbra will be in effect between 12:00 and 18:00 on Saturday. According to IPMA, the yellow warning is issued whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation. Because of the hot weather, the national health authority (DGS) has recalled the recommendation of special attention to the most vulnerable to heat, such as children, the elderly, the chronically ill and pregnant women.
