Nova Scotia Power says damaged equipment caused power outages that hit more than 4,000 customers this afternoon in two different areas of the province. The utility's website says power went out in the West Porters Lake area of the Eastern Shore around 2:30 p.m. At one point more than 2,000 customers didn't have power, but electricity was restored by 5 p.m.Around 3:30 p.m., more than 2,200 customers in the Amherst Shore area of Cumberland County lost their power. Electricity has returned to many homes and businesses and it's hoped all power will be restored by 6:30 p.m.
