Power outages as heavy rain hits north of the countryJOHN SELKIRK/FAIRFAX NZ Localised thunderstorms could hit south Auckland. Just over 700 properties are without power in Auckland as wild weather starts to hit the top of the country. MetService expected very heavy rain to hit areas from Northland down to the Taranaki and the northern Bay of Plenty over Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLEAucklanders will not escape unscathed, however, with possible thunderstorms in the south and heavy bursts of rain from 6pm Tuesday. IT GETS BETTER - THEN WORSEThis heavy rain will hit the north of the country again after mostly clearing out on Wednesday afternoon.
