Power secures bumper payday but PGA Tour win must wait

Séamus Power hits out of a bunker onto the ninth green during the final round of the AT&T Byron Nelson tournament in McKinney, Texas. The Tooraneena man (34) was left to wonder what might have been as his hopes of a maiden PGA Tour win dissolved in the rain on the back nine at TPC Craig Ranch, where South Korea’s KH Lee shot a six-under 66 to clinch his first PGA Tour win by three strokes from overnight leader Sam Burns (70) on 25-under. But his title chances disappeared coming down the stretch when he double-bogeyed the 13th and bogeyed the 14th, coming home in 39 to finish seven strokes behind Lee on 18-under after a two-under 70. He made four birdies, and three bogeys in a one-under 71 to finish on nine-under as Howie (26) recorded a six-under 66 to win his maiden Challenge Tour title by seven strokes from Dane Marcus Helligkilde (67) on 22-under at Hinton Golf Club. I made a few more mistakes over the weekend in some trickier conditions, but overall I’m very happy considering the lack of competition of late.”
