Premier Kathleen Wynne to tour Ontario colleges and universities

Premier Kathleen Wynne is heading back to campus — including a stop at her alma mater, Queen’s University — as part of a provincial post-secondary tour this week. Wynne will be at Laurentian University in Sudbury on Monday and will visit Collège Boréal and Cambrian College later in the day, where she’s to meet with faculty and students and talk about how to “create a fairer, better and greener province with more opportunity for everyone.”While Wynne is there to tout the province’s “free tuition” — rebates that are equal to or, in some cases, greater than the cost of their fees, she may also get an earful from college students, who have only recently begun their second semester after their fall classes were cancelled for five weeks during the province’s longest strike by their faculty. Some 12,000 instructors were legislated back to work in November, and colleges scrambled to shorten winter holidays, extend the semester and condense course curriculums to make up the time. Wynne is also making stops in Kingston, Cambridge, Windsor and the Toronto area.
