The new arrangement would not apply to Football League clubs and the January window will remain. The proposed changes, however, would not prevent other European clubs – with their own transfer window dates in place – coming in to take players from English clubs, a prospect which would have serious consequences for the strength of their Champions and Europa League campaigns. Many Premier League managers, however, have grown weary of the window and the impact it can have, almost three weeks into a domestic campaign. “At our managers’ meeting at the Premier League last week, we spoke about it. “It would have helped us this year [if the window had shut when the season began],” he said.
