Arrangements are being made to use seaweed to produce fertilizers and nitrogen solutions required for organic farming stated the State Minister of Fisheries Kanchana Wijesekara today (07). Under the Livelihood Development Program, it is planned to provide assistance to 200 beneficiaries to commence seaweed cultivation this year. At present, it has been identified that these seaweeds can be used for the production of organic fertilizer. A discussion was held recently with these seaweed exporters on how to use seaweed for future organic fertilizer production. The Minister said that arrangements will be made to use seaweed to produce fertilizers and nitrogen liquids required for organic farming.
