Pride Toronto says this year’s celebrations will return to the group’s roots as a protest movement to honour the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots — one of the landmark moments in the fight for LGBTQ rights. Pride Toronto honours “those that started this world-changing movement 50 years ago. This year’s Pride Toronto theme is meant to remind festivalgoers why the movement started, says executive director Olivia Nuamah. The reference to Stonewall comes in a year in which Pride Toronto narrowly voted to once again bar uniformed Toronto police from participating in the annual parade. Pride Toronto also announced Rainbow Railroad as its first-ever charity partner.
