The Prince George’s County Council introduced legislation Tuesday to reject a $10,000 salary boost recommended by the county to offset the likely loss of the lawmakers’ controversial car allowances. “It just wasn’t where we as a council wanted to be,” said County Council Chair Dannielle M. Glaros (D). Although council members with take-home cars have relinquished them, the council has not formally ended the program. She added that council members appreciated the “thoughtful” work done by the compensation committee, whose recommendation for a 2.5 percent cost-of-living increase the council accepted. Fairfax County, the most populous jurisdiction in the region, pays its council members $95,000 a year.
