Private practitioners should help during disasters: Kulaste

According to the National disaster management guidelines formulated in 2016 by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), private hospitals have an equal responsibility of helping the government during disasters. The guidelines say that officials on duty during a disasters should coordinate with local health authorities, neighbouring hospitals and private medical practitioners to ensure continuous provision of essential medical services to the community. “Private hospitals and practitioners should take part in the social causes such as saving people during disasters. During disasters there is a shortfall of qualified medical practitioners for treating injuries and rehabilitation of patients. Private hospitals and practitioners should also share the responsibility,” said Kulaste.
