more-inReiterating the demand for promulgation of an ordinance to facilitate conduct of jallikattu, Tamil Maanila Congress president G.K. Vasan on Friday said conducting the traditional sport was a cultural right of the people of Tamil Nadu. The Supreme Court could have banned the sport temporarily, but none could restrain the sentiments of the people. The Centre should take a policy decision to permit jallikattu and bring in the ordinance. Referring to the agrarian crisis due to the drought, Mr. Vasan demanded waiver of all crop loans sanctioned by cooperative societies and nationalised banks. Despite the Supreme Court orders, the Karnataka government had failed to release Tamil Nadu’s due share of water in the Cauvery.
