ADADUnder the new camping laws passed Wednesday, protesters would first be issued a warning. ADADBut Democrats and some Republicans pushed back that making camping at the Capitol a felony was out of proportion to the offense. “Are we really saying that a citizen of this state can ... have a felony record because they camped on public property? That should be a bridge too far.”Although the Senate initially passed a bill that made the camping offense a misdemeanor, the House’s felony version eventually prevailed. On Wednesday it passed the Senate, 26-5, and the House, 71-20, the Tennessean reported, largely along party lines.
