Four days of widespread protests and blockades across the country have left businesses heading into the weekend facing major delivery backlogs. Retailers in urban centres where some of the blockades are the most intense face particular challenges where delivery issues are compounded by reduced footfall. An Post said deliveries have been disrupted, with the protests affecting both the mail service and post office networks. While there have been delays, services are not at a critical point at this stage.”Meanwhile, retailers say business is down as much as 50pc as a result of the crisis. Footfall in urban centres including Dublin, Cork, Galway, and Limerick has fallen by approximately 50pc, with retail trade down between 30pc and 50pc, the sharpest single-day decline many retailers have experienced, REI said.
