I talked to Johnson recently about why she believes it’s important to kick outdated stereotypes about single motherhood to the curb. You write that there’s this gaping chasm between today’s single moms and how the world perceives us. Some of your ideas really challenge single moms to rewrite some of the scripts about how single moms should think and how they should approach things. We’ve accepted that that’s normal and healthy and acceptable for young single women, but mothers, we’re expected to follow a different set of rules. But it’s really a call to action for all of us to be raising the image of what not only what a single mom is, but what women are.
