Twenty-five years after the murder of eight-year-old Kelly Doherty, Derry journalist Ingrid Devlin is running an anniversary piece for The Chronicle. While the Doherty family are reluctant to dredge up the past, Kelly's mother agrees to an exclusive interview and Ingrid visits the Doherty home, with its jarring memories. The man held responsible for Kelly's death contacts Ingrid and proclaims his innocence. Following his release from prison, he hides outside the walls of Derry, knowing he can never return home for fear of retribution. Against the background of post-Troubles Northern Ireland, Allan's fifth thriller is peppered with tension and fear, cleverly highlighting the changes in childhood experiences within one generation.
