A 16-hour taxi ride changed the writer's perspective. I recently traveled by taxi from Cape Town to my hometown of Maclear in the Eastern Cape - an adventure I do not see myself embarking on in the future. Typically, the journey is about 12 hours or so, but it took us 16 hours.
