NEW DELHI: Pranab Mukherjee and Manmohan Singh have been two exceptions for Rahul Gandhi among the Congress old guard . His "experimental" style of leading the party came under question from seniors who felt that the focus while in Opposition should be on consolidation rather than experimentation. Veterans from the AICC and state units participated with gusto.It is clear that a generational compromise was struck during the passage of time from Rahul's early days and his now imminent elevation. He has been open about giving state units to senior leaders and drafting in veterans to plot strategies. The approach allayed the fears that Rahul would supplant the old with the new, lock stock and barrel.
