Tuju had been held at Karen Police Station, where his family and legal representatives pushed for immediate medical attention. Tuju had gone missing alongside his aide, Steve Mwanga, prompting a missing person report to be filed at Karen Police Station. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that investigations had established that the reported disappearance was staged.
