European leaders have signed off on a withdrawal agreement that sets out the terms of the UK’s exit from the EU. This week, MPs are debating whether to accept the deal, and are expected to vote on the issue on December 11. The prime minister argues that the deal respects the result of the 2016 referendum by taking back control of the UK’s borders, laws and finances, while protecting jobs by ensuring tariff-free trade with the EU. Opponents of the deal say it will prevent us striking trade agreements with other countries, force us to accept EU regulations and, through the Irish border backstop, bind us to the EU indefinitely.
