Reckless drivers to be prosecuted

From The Times, September 9, 1920:Some of the police traps for motorists in the Metropolitan Police area have been withdrawn, and no motorists have been summoned for exceeding the speed limit since August 30. It is likely that in future more proceedings will be taken for reckless and dangerous driving, and that heavier penalties will be enforced, accompanied, where warranted, by the suspension of the driver’s licence. It is fully time that our laws relating to road traffic were revised and recast on lines suitable to modern conditions. There are few examples in late years of a movement attaining such wide development in such a short time as that of motor road transport, and hardly one in which legislation has been so ill-advised.
