Recorded crime figures down across most offence groups in 2025Across most offence groups, the number of recorded crimes in Ireland fell by the end of 2025, when compared with 2024, according to newly released figures from the CSO. ​The biggest decreases were in homicide and related offences (down 25%), burglary and related offences (down 21%), kidnapping and related offences (down 21%), and robbery, extortion and hijacking offences (down 11%). ​Sexual offences decreased by 10%, with the number of crime incidents dropping from 3,449 in 2022 to 2025. ​Jim Dalton, statistician at the CSO, said: “Recorded Crime statistics published today for October, November, and December (Q4) 2025 showed that recorded crime incidents fell for most offence groups between 2024 and 2025. The most significant of these were incidents of Homicide & Related offences, Kidnapping & Related offences, Burglary & Related offences, and Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking
