Mercedes have accused Red Bull of causing the “avalanche” of abuse that was levelled at Lewis Hamilton after his victory at the British Grand Prix. Hamilton was racially abused online after his collision with his title rival Max Verstappen on the opening lap at Silverstone forced the Red Bull driver out of the race. SponsoredChristian Horner, the Red Bull team principal, made several loaded comments regarding Hamilton straight after the race, including accusing him of putting a fellow driver’s life at risk. Red Bull were furious that Hamilton was handed only a ten-second penalty before going on to win the race and had applied to have that decision reviewed but their case was thrown out on Thursday because of a lack of any new evidence
