Subreddits going darkThe moderators of thousands of individual parts of Reddit have temporarily become private, meaning only people with permission can access them. Three popular apps that allowed people to access Reddit - Apollo, Reddit is Fun and ReddPlanet - have all said they will close in response to the fees. The company has previously said that it spends millions of dollars every year allowing third-party apps to access its data. Access to the API (application programming interface) is what is being changed as Reddit cracks down on third-party apps. Reddit had always offered its API for free however in April it said it would introduce fees to access the data.
