Refloating of Ever Given shows efficiency of Egyptian engineers: Suez Canal Authority

CAIRO – 29 March 2021: The refloating of the Ever Given ship proves the efficiency of Egyptian engineers in dealing with the crisis, head of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabei said Monday. Rabei said nine Egyptian tugboats and one Dutch tugboat, adding that the navigation of ships in the canal will resume as usual. He continued that about 12 ships, some of them larger than Ever Given, crossed the canal the same day in the same weather as the stranded ship. Taha also said it was the first time the technique of digging out sand from underneath a ship in Suez Canal has been used, which shows great professionality in handling the situation. The admiral went on to say that the crisis emphasized once more the global importance of the Suez Canal at all levels, including the strategic level as some forces were impacted militarily by the closure.
