Retired judge Thumba Pillay reflects on his relationship with renowned lawyer, Henry Brown who represented Nelson Mandela, after reading Brown's book 'A lawyer's odyssey: Apartheid, Mandela and beyond'. This is in part a review of Henry Brown's book 'A lawyer's odyssey: Apartheid, Mandela and beyond' but also a reflection of my relationship with the author. I was honoured to have shared some of the journey described in the book with Brown, whom I reconnected with more than 60 years later under the most unusual circumstances. Therefore, I apologise in advance because the fascination and joy of reconnection take a more significant part of this "review" more than the content itself.
