The PPBM chairman said Hadi should repent and rescind a controversial portion of his address called “Amanat Hadi” (Hadi’s mandate), which he said had led to a deep split among Malay-Muslims in the country. “What right does Hadi and PAS have to denounce (‘mengkafirkan’) those who do not join their party as infidels? Delivered in Kampung Banggol, Kuala Terengganu, on April 7, 1981, the “Amanat Hadi” had, among other things, questioned Muslims who joined Umno. Mahathir, 92, claimed that the “Amanat Hadi” had contributed to the incident where 14 villagers and four police officers were killed. “But PAS will still manipulate Islam,” he claimed, adding that PAS had demanded for hudud laws to be implemented.
