The Detroit News, citing a source close to Craig, confirmed an earlier report by journalist Charlie LeDuff during his podcast. Ralph Godbee, the former chief of the Detroit police, told Fox 2 Detroit that Craig's public safety leadership would transition well to politics. Whitmer, meanwhile, has been criticized over for a recent trip to Florida to visit her father.
