If I say new data from the national General Social Survey released this week indicates more than two-thirds of Republicans say they have “hardly any” confidence in the media, will those Republicans believe me? Indeed, more than two-thirds of Republicans say they have little confidence in the media, a figure that has risen nearly 20 points since 2014. On the other end of the political spectrum, fewer Democrats express low confidence in the media than at any point in nearly 30 years. The gap between Democrats who have hardly any confidence in the media and those who have a great deal of confidence is the smallest it has been over the same period. (Philip Bump/The Washington Post)The General Social Survey is not the only research that shows a gulf in views of the media by party.
