Retailers Pounce On Toys 'R' Us Real Estate When There's No Need To Rush - News Summed Up

Retailers Pounce On Toys 'R' Us Real Estate When There's No Need To Rush

The headlines surfacing the past day or two that several big national retailers are licking their lips over upcoming Toys "R" Us vacant store locations seem more like a carnival huckster’s pitch than actual real estate news. The word that Toys is auctioning off less than 100 doors in court today is literally a drop in the retail bucket. As Toys and Claire’s and Best Buy and Sears/Kmart and all the rest continue to shed real estate, others are aggressively expanding. There’s more empty retail space out there than the industry will ever need again and no matter how many stores Amazon, Bonobos and Warby Parker ever take, the net gains will still be in the minus column. So if you missed the Toys sale this week, not to worry: As with everything in retailing, they’ll be another sale coming along tomorrow.
