Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons, 55, is a founding member of the hip-hop group RUN DMC. A minister, he is co-author with his wife, Justine, and Amy Ferris, of “Old School Love: And Why It Works” (Dey Street). He spoke with Marc Myers. My dad was a poet. When he wasn’t working as a New York City school-attendance supervisor or teaching black history at Pace University, he wrote poems, mostly about me.
