Hoddle gave Ferdinand his England debut in 1997 and made a serious impression on the youngster, who he gave an awful lot of freedom to play out from the back. ‘Hoddle was my favourite manager after Sir Alex Ferguson, in terms of what he could have done for me as a footballer,’ Ferdinand told Vibe with FIVE. ‘One of the most frustrating things about losing the England job when I lost it was to do with Rio. I had fantastic plans for Rio Ferdinand,’ Hoddle told OTB Sports.
