One of those swooped on by police is a researcher who has had links to several senior Tory MPs, including security minister Tom Tugendhat and foreign affairs committee chairwoman Alicia Kearns. Downing Street said Mr Sunak "conveyed his significant concerns about Chinese interference in the UK’s parliamentary democracy". Mr Sunak cited his confrontation with Mr Li as an example of the benefits of his policy of engagement rather than "shouting from the sidelines". The Prime Minister told broadcasters he "raised a range of different concerns that we have in areas of disagreement". Mr Tugendhat is said not to have had any contact with the researcher since before he became security minister in September last year.
