Roadblocks divert car industry gainsAs car sales fall within the country, Vietnam is looking to overhaul regulations to keep up with the rapid changes within the automotive industry. In January, auto imports from ASEAN countries skyrocketed following tariff reductions throughout the region. However, Vietnam’s automobile industry has an annual production capacity of 250,000 units compared to over two million in Thailand. The organisation said the country needs to increase the domestic car market volume to retain local assembly. Vietnam’s domestic car market is not big enough to support large-scale automotive production.
